Tomas Tranströmer (1931– 2015) was born in a working-class part of Stockholm, Sweden. His writing career began by publishing his first book of poetry (17 Poems, Albert Bonniers förlag, 1954), at the age of twenty-three while still in university studies. He received a Ph.D. Psychology at Stockholm University, and worked as a psychologist. His poetry has been translated into over 60 languages. He was the recipient of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Literature.
