Daniel Stagno has established himself as one of Sweden’s most successful young pianists and composers during the last years. He studied at the Music Academy in Malmö under the guidance of Professor Hans Pålsson, at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under the guidance of Hamsa Al-Wadi Juris and at Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano under the guidance of Alessandro D’Onofrio.
Daniel Stagno’s repertoire does not only cover the standard canon; he has a passion to spread more rarely played music such as the first piano sonata by Rachmaninov as well as sonatas and character pieces by Nikolai Kapustin and Nikolai Medtner.
As a composer he mainly focuses on piano music, songs and chamber music. However he has also composed numerous pieces for his former instrument, the classical guitar. In 2011 the CD Frödingsånger including his 16 songs to the poems of Gustaf Fröding was launched.
He has performed his music on Swedish and Finnish radio and performs regularly in concerts all over Europe.
In 2012 he finished composing 17 songs on the poems of Tomas Tranströmer, Nobel prize winner in literature 2011. In recognition that due to a stroke Tomas Tranströmer plays piano with left hand, he has also composed three pieces for the left hand based on poems by Tranströmer.
